WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL ABOUT OBAMA?!
• November 4, 2008 Barack Obama received 365 Electoral votes to win the Presidency.
o He the forty-fourth and current President of the United States of America. He is the first African American to hold the office.
o He was the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review.
o "Twenty-five years ago Martin Luther King had a dream of an America where men and women would be judged not on the colour of their skin but on the content of their character," Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd said.
• "Today what America has done is turn that dream into a reality."
o Have we deified Barack Obama? To deify means to make a god of; exalt to the rank of a deity; personify as a deity.
o What is our responsibility to him?
o Our responsibility is to pray for him and others that are in authority over us.
o 1 Timothy 2:1-3 “The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray especially for rulers and their governments to rule well so we can be quietly about our business of living simply, in humble contemplation. This is the way our Savior God wants us to live.” (Msg)
o 1 Timothy 2:1-3 “I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,” (NIV)
o When we pray for those that are in authority over us, we are blessed with a good life and then we please God.
o Requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving are the different types of prayers
o Requests – requests to God
o Prayers – devotion or communication with God
o Intercessions – coming to God on behalf of another person
o Giving of thanks – praising God for what He has done by placing them in the place of authority.
o We must pray for all in authority. Who are they>
o People that hold any position in our lives
• Parents, teachers, supervisors, Pastors, government officials, etc
o Why is this done?
o So that we may live peaceful and quiet lives
• Sometimes the ones that make our lives a HELL are the ones that are over us.
• We need to pray for them as well as their decisions to who they place under them.
o Also so we can please God.
• When God is pleased, we reap the benefits of whatever God has in store for us.
